Many reviews have praised Kensington’s new “Orbit” trackball. If you’re a confirmed trackball user, you’ll probably agree.
But is it good enough to compete with the traditional mouse?
We personally believe that the trackball falls into the same category as 8-tracks or Betamax–superior technology that was defeated in the marketplace by lesser-quality, but better advertised alternatives. Not only does the trackball take less space to use on a desktop, but your fingers’ direct connection with the ball is more efficient (and potentially more accurate) than the relative movements of your hand and the ball housing on a mouse pad.
