iMac Report Card - part 1
by admin on Aug.29, 2010, under Uncategorized
I posted to Apple’s Evangelist, a great bunch of Mac users and enthusiasts, for comments on their personal experiences with the Apple iMac. I received over 100 letters and my thanks go out to the Evangelist for helping me with this feature.
Here’s what folks on the Evangelist had to say about Apple’s iMac. Most users seemed very positive about their iMacs, but some of them have experienced problems.
First, the positives:Todd Huettel, who works in a high school computer lab in Illinois, convinced his boss to buy four iMacs for the school computer lab. Todd says, “And I gotta tell you, they are a big hit. Whenever a class arrives at the lab, students always race to get to the iMacs first. 99 percent of the students think they’re cool (the other 1 percent think they’re a little too far out there for their tastes.” (continue reading…)
Zurk’s Learning Safari
by admin on May.10, 2010, under Uncategorized
Ideal software for a child’s first computer experience.
Zurk’s Learning Safari is not your typical early learning software. You won’t find splashy graphics or slick animation on this CD-ROM.
Instead, kids will explore a realistic safari of soft pastels and watercolors with original African rhythms.
Zurk is a zany cartoon character who has springs for legs. He bounces back and forth throughout activities such as Alphabet Soup, Hide and Seek, Alphabet Book, Maya’s Adventure, Magic Box and Puzzles.
Aimed at children 3 through 6 years, Zurk’s Learning Safari seems to appeal to younger kids. Four-year-old Timmy enjoyed Puzzles and Hide and Seek, but didn’t care for the other activities. This title would make a better choice for kids who are being introduced to software– possibly, a good choice for a child’s first software title. (continue reading…)
The Playroom
by admin on May.05, 2010, under Uncategorized
A room of interactive toys come to life as you and your kids click and explore every nook and cranny. Although Broderbund’s The Playroom CD-ROM (Win/Mac) is aimed at kids ages 3 through 6, kids as young as 2 will enjoy this software and its multi-level games tremendously. Kids learn the basics of letters, numbers and time by playing 10 different activities in The Playroom.
Two patty cake playing cartoon mice named Pepper and Ginger invite kids to explore The Playroom. Kids can click on any of the objects in the room to find toys and surprises. Want some music? Click on the CD jukebox and select some fun, playful tunes(romper-room type music, not Garth Brooks, mind you). Choose the fishbowl and listen to a fish straining to sing opera! Some of the objects such as the clock, mouse hole, ABC book, spinner toy, computer and mixed-up toy lead to another activity and screen. When kids wish to return to the Playroom, they just click on the little door in the lower right corner. Navigation as easy as A-B-C!! (continue reading…)
Let’s Talk About Me
by admin on Apr.10, 2010, under Uncategorized
Attitude! Let’s Talk About Me is a hip CD-ROM (Win/Mac) aimed exclusively at pre-teen and teen-age girls. Not quite as popular as a cellular phone (but lots cheaper), girls can get the scoop on relationships, self-image, coping, and more in this hot interactive software filled with quizzes and games.
Dubbed “The Girl’s Interactive Handbook for the 21st Century”, the main screen is made up of brilliant arrows which lead to four different sections: My Personality, My Body, My Future and My Life. There are tons of fun-filled quizzes, games, horoscopes, and common-sense answers to the “whys and hows” of a girl’s developing body. Girls also can rub elbows with over 20 women mentors who are ready to share their personal experiences. (continue reading…)
